( NewsNation) — As National Missing Persons Day is observed, there are more than 26,000 active missing cases in the U.S., with family and friends still waiting to find out what happened to their loved one. Many people who are reported missing are located, but in some cases, families are left without answers for years or even decades.

The legislators behind the Guardian app are trying to pass a budget amendment to get the app implemented this year.

Over the last few years, there has been a noticeable resurgence in missing persons cases, including many child abductions that often do not receive the needed support and visibility to resolve hundreds of ongoing investigations. This disturbing trend has sparked considerable concern and fear among families in southeast Michigan.
