Nintendo officially reveals its four best-selling Switch 2 games, but one absent game may be a red flag for fans.
Nintendo unveiled a bunch of information Tuesday about games coming to Switch 2 over the next few months. Many of the write-ups you might come across today — including those for Mario Tennis Fever and the new Super Mario Bros.
The first half of the Switch 2’s first year is in the books. Here’s how we graded it back in December. But now Nintendo’s latest earnings report is here to offer some hard numbers on how the Mario maker’s current next-gen platform shift is going. TL;DR: Incredibly strongly, though it’s still searching for that runaway hit no one can shut up about.
Nintendo launched the Virtual Boy in 1995, when the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was in its twilight and the next-generation Nintendo 64 still a year away.
As we started moving into 2026, I was still left wondering how well the Switch 2 will be able to keep up with brand new AAA titles as they come out. Based on some hands-on time I've had with two upcoming technical showpieces, the answer is "very well."
Nintendo shipped over 7 million Switch 2 consoles during Holiday 2025, less than the Switch 1's holiday debut, but the system has beaten legacy sales.
That being said, if Capcom and Nintendo have been able to stick the landing here, it could prove to be a big moment for the Switch 2, bringing it ever closer to being a viable, versatile option for triple-A gaming with solid performance – and a whole lot less waiting around for ports to land.
Nintendo's latest financial results are notably silent on the sales performance of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which has not appeared on the company's list of million copy-selling games for either Switch 1 or Switch 2.
