Winter storm Fern dropped about half a foot of snow across Montgomery County on Saturday night, with another 2 to 4 inches of snow, sleet and ice expected to accumulate Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm is bringing heavy, powdery snow to Maryland Sunday morning. By mid- to late morning, conditions are expected to change to sleet and freezing rain.

Crews across the tri-state area were preparing for incoming snow, pre-treating roads, sidewalks and parking lots ahead of worsening conditions.

MCPS announced that its offices and schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday in response to icy conditions and snow.
